Trump drops cold reaction to ex-ambassador on her way out the door

President Donald Trump is doing his best to distance himself from newly fired Kimberly Guilfoyle despite her giving Trump’s leadership a thumbs-up and vowing to fight allegations of misconduct against her. He is not returning the favor with niceties.

Speaking to reporters on live TV after Guilfoyle was given the axe, he downplayed her previous relationship with his son and their family. “No, she wasn’t a member of my family. She, I guess, dated my son a long time ago,” Trump said when asked about the former U.S. ambassador’s collapse.

A few moments before Trump’s shade, Guilfoyle commented on her abrupt departure as U.S. ambassador to Greece, praising Trump and maintaining her loyalty to Trump on social media. “My gratitude and respect for President Trump and Secretary Rubio remain unwavering,” she wrote, adding that she would “always be a loyal supporter” of Trump and the MAGA movement.

Trump’s assertion that Guilfoyle simply dated his son is a stretch. She was once engaged to the president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr. She also served as a staunch supporter in his political endeavors. Guilfoyle and Trump Jr. started dating in 2018, got engaged in 2020, and reportedly split in 2024.

Guilfoyle was asked to resign from her position amid multiple misconduct allegations, including that the former fiancée of Trump Jr. secretly begged a Republican donor to pay her credit card debt of $100,000 while she was waiting to be confirmed as ambassador to Greece, The New York Times reports.

The donor, Eric Deters, provided text correspondence in which he says Guilfoyle had asked him to wire the money to pay off her American Express card. The messages are reportedly from July 2025, which is after her romantic relationship with Trump Jr. was over, and just before her Senate confirmation hearing. In return for the payment, she reportedly promised to serve as Deters “ride or die in Trump world,” saying he’d have access to several resources and contacts when needed.

In the texts, it appears she tried to cover her tracks by removing a paper trail as potential evidence. Guilfoyle reportedly warned Deters to call her on Signal and keep their private. “You’ll literally cost me my ambassadorship,” she wrote, per one of the screenshots Deters shared with The New York Times. “Eric, I really wish you would stop papering all these things,” another message said. “It’s really dangerous.”
