Receipts don’t lie: Blanche trapped by legal experts over Trump fabrication

President Donald Trump’s new attorney general just tried to convince Americans that he is not catering to the president’s whims — and Democracy Docket, a pro-democracy group, just proved them wrong.

“Poor Todd, there’s always a Truth and there’s always the tape,” Democracy Docket posted on X. “ICYMI: Yesterday Attorney General Todd Blanche went on TV and said Trump never calls him up and tells him who to prosecute. Never has, never will. We brought the receipts again.”

They then showed a recent social media post by Trump on his Truth Social platform calling for the prosecution of his perceived political enemies.

“I have reviewed over 30 statements and posts saying that, essentially, ‘same old story as last time, all talk, no action. Nothing is being done. What about Comey, Adam ‘Shifty’ Schiff, Leticia??? They’re all guilty as hell, but nothing is going to be done,'” Trump wrote in the post. “Then we almost put in a Democrat supported U.S. Attorney, in Virginia, with a really bad Republican past. A Woke RINO, who was never going to do his job. That’s why two of the worst Dem Senators PUSHED him so hard. He even lied to the media and said he quit, and that we had no case. No, I fired him, and there is a GREAT CASE, and many lawyers, and legal pundits, say so.”

They added, “Lindsey Halligan is a really good lawyer, and likes you, a lot. We can’t delay any longer, it’s killing our reputation and credibility. They impeached me twice, and indicted me (5 times!), OVER NOTHING. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!! President DJT”

In addition to going after Trump’s opponents, Blanche is also under heavy scrutiny for refusing to vow to protect American democracy from Trump’s attempts to rig the 2026 midterm elections. Despite losing more than 20 court cases on the subject, Trump has made it clear he intends to use states’ voter information to try to purge people who may vote against him. He argues that any election lost by himself or his supporters is rigged by nature.

“The administration has been trying to compel states to turn their voter rolls over to the federal government and to consolidate all of that in a mega database,” Susannah Goodman, Common Cause’s Policy Director in the Voting and Fair Representation Program, told AlterNet in June. “A number of states have refused to turn over their unredacted voter rolls with personal identifying information — Social Security numbers, driver’s licenses, et cetera. Common Cause and our partners have intervened in, I think, 17 of those cases on behalf of voters.”

She continued that, “I don’t believe there has been a single case… where, when the state has resisted and claimed they are not going to turn these voter rolls over, the court has dismissed the case or compelled the states to turn them over. The government has not had a compelling reason, and the states have won. So when states fight back, they win. We have been involved in that litigation. That is another huge power grab by the administration. It is also an illegal power grab, and when we have pushed back, we have won.”
