Although U.S. President Donald Trump is attacking New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and other Democrats as “communists” (which they aren’t—Mamdani identifies as a “democratic socialist”), he often speaks fondly of an actual communist: North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. Trump is now cutting back on military drills with South Korea while citing his “very good relationship” with Jong Un, and in the process, he is generating a great deal of discussion — some of it quite negative.

On MS NOW, conservative host Joe Scarborough lambasted Trump for his “love letters” to Jong Un — who the former GOP congressman described as the “worst, most repressive tyrant on the face of the earth.”
Foreign policy expert Richard Haass, on MS NOW, pointed to the South Korea exercises as a troubling example of why many U.S. allies feel like they “can no longer trust the United States.”
Meanwhile, the South Korea news is generating a great deal of discussion on X, formerly Twitter.
The response from conservative former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Illinois) was downright scathing.
Kinzinger, a military veteran and outspoken Trump critic on the right, tweeted, “Trump is suspending exercises with South Korea because he says he has a ‘really good relationship’ with Kim Jong-un. Meanwhile, North Korea has nuclear weapons, threatens our allies, supplies Russia’s war against Ukraine, and has sent troops to fight alongside Putin. This is how American alliances get destroyed — and how you convince countries like South Korea and Japan that they may need nuclear weapons of their own. The damage from this could last generations.”
MS NOW’s Kyle Griffin noted, “Trump just directed Pete Hegseth to ‘substantially reduce’ joint military exercises with South Korea — citing his ‘very good relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.'”

Tim Fullerton, CEO of Find Out Media, tweeted, “Can’t wait to see what we get from that deal. Hahaha who are we kidding? We won’t get s– –! Trump just loves dictators.”
U.S. Army veteran Ryan King wrote, “MAGA is now supporting the North Korean Communists.”
Scottish historian/author William Dalrymple commented, “Chum to all the worst regimes & a massive threat to world peace…. President says he ‘gets along great’ with dictator.”
But Charles P. Snyder, CEO of Snyder Global Endeavors, insists that the United States’ relationship with South Korea remains strong.
