On Sunday, President Donald Trump spent the day posting such a steady stream of “deranged” AI memes to social media that many have suggested he was having some form of mental health episode. This latest eruption comes amidst growing warnings that the Commander in Chief is experiencing severe cognitive decline.

“Trump spent his entire Sunday on a bender, posting nonstop AI images to his Truth Social page for more than six hours,” explained the New Republic political commentator Hafiz Rashid. “It started at 11:16 a.m. with an AI image of CNN correspondent Kaitlan Collins as transgender model Dylan Mulvaney holding cans of Bud Light, and escalated from there. Bruce Springsteen, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Representative Jerry Nadler, and Trump’s longtime nemesis Rosie O’Donnell were among those targeted in his posting binge. He also posted several flattering photos of himself in mock-up movie posters and, in one instance, standing next to former President John F. Kennedy.” There were many others.
As Rashid noted, “None of the images had any text attached to them, and were interspersed with some of his campaign photos and pro-Iran war propaganda. At one point, he posted nine Iran war memes three times in a row in the span of just over an hour.”
According to political commentator Heather Delaney Reese, who has spent the past decade documenting Trump’s behavior, “There didn’t appear to be any thought to how these posts would make him look to the world, beyond trying to make himself look powerful and in control. He failed at both.” She emphasized that, “This is the President of the United States. Not a troll account, a child who got their hands on a phone, or some random unidentifiable account. These all came from the verified account of the man who holds the most powerful office on earth.”

What’s more, she noted the timing of Trump’s post eruption, writing, “While we were all learning about the grave threat our military and country is facing, with the shrinking munition resources, he was posting images of himself conquering Iran and winning the war.” She detailed a flood of bad news regarding the war that came over the weekend, from reports that the conflict has burned through weapon stockpiles, to top officials admitting failure, to accusations that the administration is lying about the American death toll. According to Delaney Reese, “That is the real reason for all the fake war posts and the desperate attempts to distract from what is really happening. We are involved in a war we cannot sustain or win in any real sense of the word.”
“It’s pretty clear that the octogenarian president is experiencing cognitive decline and had some kind of episode Sunday,” Rashid concluded. “It’s been evident throughout his second term as president, but as of late, he’s thrown a tablet across a room after a bad phone call with world leaders, rambled about the history of paper clips in the middle of a speech, and zoned out in the middle of a photo op. It’s a terrifying thought to realize that we still have two years of Trump occupying the Oval Office with his mental state only growing worse.”
