President Donald Trump\u2019s planned \u201cAnti-Weaponization Fund\u201d may have been put on pause, but Bloomberg reports \u201cUS officials are continuing with\u201d a provision that would \u201c[bar] the government from probing\u201d the president\u2019s past tax filings.<\/p>\n

Monday, Axios\u2019 Marc Caputo reported that \u201cthe Trump administration plans to drop its controversial $1.8 billion ‘weaponization’ fund.\u201d The fund was created by the Department of Justice after Trump dropped a $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS. A source told Caputo the deal is \u201cdead for now.\u201d <\/p>\n

But, according to Bloomberg, that doesn\u2019t extend to a subset of the agreement that barred \u201cany audits and tax-related probes of Trump, his family members and his companies that were started before the settlement,\u201d a person familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s fund was mired in controversy and became a \u201cpolitical lighting rod for some Republican lawmakers,\u201d Bloomberg reports.<\/p>\n

Last week, a judge temporarily halted the fund after 35 former federal judges demandeddemanded a reinvestigation of Trump\u2019s suit, arguing “the court was deceived” by the Department.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe purported \u2018settlement\u2019 that was publicly disclosed after this court dismissed this matter raises profound questions about the parties\u2019 candor toward the court and manipulation of the judicial system, which threatens to undermine confidence in the administration of justice,\u201d the former judges’ legal team argued.<\/p>\n
