On Sunday, while appearing on the online debate show Surrounded, MAGA influencer Dave Rubin was asked to name a single way the economy has improved under President Donald Trump. His answer \u2014 or lack thereof \u2014 was \u201cembarrassing,\u201d said commentators. After some fluster, Rubin was unable to name a single economic upside to Trump\u2019s presidency. <\/p>\n

Surrounded is a popular series from Jubilee Media in which a guest faces off against a circle of those holding opposing views to debate hot-button political issues at a rapid-fire pace. According to the Independent, \u201cHalfway through Sunday\u2019s encounter, liberal social media personality Parker Sedgwick stepped up to ask Rubin simply: \u2018What is one main metric that Donald Trump has made better off since he got into office? An example would be GDP, unemployment, inflation, et cetera.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now\u2026 first off, the Big Beautiful Bill was just passed last year, it\u2019s kicking in now, right?\u201d Rubin responded. \u201cIt\u2019s kicking in now, so we are see… we\u2019re going to now see results of that. Like\u2026 even the tariffs, so let\u2019s do tariffs \u2013 are you for or against tariffs?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m against the universal tariffs,\u201d Sedgwick said. \u201cSo what\u2019s the main metric that he made better off?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat?\u201d Rubin said as the room erupted with laughter, the audience having \u201crecognized the stalling tactic.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s the main metric that he made better off, any idea?\u201d Sedgwick pushed.<\/p>\n

\u201cListen\u2026\u201d Rubin started but trailed off, drawing more laughs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think you do,\u201d his inquisitor ventured.<\/p>\n

\u201cHold on,\u201d Rubin said. \u201cSo you\u2019re arguing that things economically were better under Joe Biden\u2026 Can you give me an example of how?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah,\u201d Sedgwick said. \u201cGDP growth was better off, real median wage growth was better off, inflation was better off at the end of his administration, unemployment was better off at the end of his administration.\u201d He went on to explain that during the second Trump administration, on the other hand, \u201cWe had the worst year of job growth this last year under Trump\u2019s administration. Inflation was 3.8 percent year-over-year since Trump got in office. We\u2019re seeing all of those economic indicators become worse off. Can you tell me anything he\u2019s done to make it better off?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHave you looked at the stock market?\u201d Rubin offered, but Sedgwick noted that both the Dow Jones and S&P 500 saw less growth in 2025 than they did the previous year \u2014 under Biden.<\/p>\n

Those watching tore Rubin\u2019s performance apart. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhy did Dave Rubin even choose to do this?\u201d posted progressive influencer Hasan Piker. \u201cHe would\u2019ve lost the debate to an empty chair. Truly the dumbest the right has to offer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Former MSNOW host and previous Surrounded guest Mehdi Hasan declared, \u201cI have watched a lot of Jubilees and I have never seen anyone get their a– handed to them this badly. Just embarrassing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is just about every MAGA talking head in media,\u201d blasted podcaster Brian Shapiro. \u201cDave is a complete imbecile. This was embarrassing.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the Independent, \u201cRubin is not alone in struggling to find the positives in Trump\u2019s second term. The president continues to poll poorly, with a Politico<\/em> survey published on Friday revealing that a majority of Americans say the ongoing cost of living crisis is the worst they can remember. Even more of a concern for Trump, 46 percent of respondents said they held him fully or mostly responsible for the state of the economy.\u201d<\/p>\n
