Over the weekend, when MAGA-aligned Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) was asked about President Donald Trump\u2019s \u201cweird relationship\u201d with senior aide Natalie Harp, he proceeded to melt down in a tirade about the \u201csuper misogynistic\u201d media. As the Daily Beast<\/u> reports, the senator \u2014 who is currently facing his own scandal \u2014 declared that \u201cpersonal stuff\u201d should be kept out of politics. <\/p>\n

As the Daily Beast explains, \u201cMoreno spoke to TMZ at Trump\u2019s Freedom 250 Grand Prix on Sunday. He refused to touch on the downright bizarre letters Harp, 35, sent her boss, 80, including one where she said the president is \u2018all that matters to her,\u2019 instead accusing the press and critics of the relationship of misogyny.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s super misogynistic,\u201d Moreno declared. \u201cI mean, the reality is she\u2019s a very talented person. She\u2019s very smart at what she does. She helps the president make sure he\u2019s communicating. And the fact that if it was a guy, nobody would say that.\u201d According to the Daily Beast, \u201cMoreno said that rumors are arising just because the $150,000-a-year special assistant and executive assistant to the president is \u2018a woman\u2019 and \u2018obviously \u2026 pretty.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reality is she\u2019s very talented, she\u2019s very, very smart,\u201d Moreno continued. \u201cI happen to know her very well. It\u2019s also obviously a very kind person. She went through bone cancer in her twenties.\u201d He added, \u201cI mean, look at the other day, I\u2019ve always said, let\u2019s just keep personal issues out.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked specifically about the fawning letters Harp sent to the president, Moreno claimed, \u201cI didn\u2019t read it, to be honest with you. I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s real or not real. But again, look, when you have a scenario where you work with somebody like that, you do develop a personal bond with somebody, but it doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s anything other than a personal bond.\u201d He went on to assert that \u201cadding\u201d anything to their platonic attachment is unwarranted, saying again, \u201cI\u2019m not a big fan of all this personal stuff getting into politics. I think what the American people want is how you make your lives better.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the Daily Beast notes, Moreno\u2019s exasperation at bringing \u201cpersonal stuff\u201d into politics comes from his own current scandal. Recently, Moreno has been in the spotlight due to suggestions that he was too slow to respond to allegations that his daughter was abused by her ex-husband, Representative Max Miller (R-OH). <\/p>\n

Moreno won his seat under Trump\u2019s endorsement and has remained a devoted loyalist ever since, once calling Trump \u201cthe greatest president of his generation.\u201d Despite Moreno\u2019s suggestion that \u201cpersonal stuff\u201d and \u201cmisogyny\u201d should be kept out of politics, Trump has a long and storied history of leveling misogynistic statements against women and personal attacks against his opponents in general. <\/p>\n
