A Trump official is trying to laugh off the suggestion that she fed information to a QAnon account that could land the owner in court.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not okay when the Deep State sets you up to commit a crime. I have never been more angry in my life,\u201d complained a QAnon X account \u201cDataRepublican (small r). \u201cI walked in with good faith. Ready to collaborate on Cuba. Got shoved a bunch of hardcopy documents to \u2018leak.\u2019 Didn\u2019t check them before accepting. Gave a noncommittal answer. Yep. Markings that would have gotten me in big big trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n

The QAnon account owner then complained that markings on the documents \u201cweren\u2019t crossed out.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI consulted people and if this were a sanctioned leak – they would have just sent over email. They tried to entrap me.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the information in the documents themselves were \u201cnothingburgers\u201d according to the X account, the poster claimed that the informant \u201ctried to get me to commit a crime. I have witnesses. @DataInterpretr will testify to all this.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I did not fall for your trap,\u201d the QAnon poster added. \u201c\u2026 Praise God that he protected me. And my kids do not have to visit their mother in jail.\u201d<\/p>\n

That same Friday, however, Under Secretary of State Sarah Rogers, who President Donald Trump appointed last year, defended the information in the QAnon poster\u2019s thread.<\/p>\n

\u201clol, these are my text messages and documents,\u201d Rogers posted from her own X account. \u201cThe \u2018markings\u2019 are FOIA redactions required even for voluntary disclosure. To prove this isn’t a \u2018trap,\u2019 I will happily disclose the documents myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rogers then submitted a thread of descriptions about a previously unreleased internal Global Engagement Center report suggesting the former State Department office under Joe Biden worked with foreign governments to monitor so-called \u201cgendered disinformation.\u201d <\/p>\n

This, said Rogers, suggested the GEC \u201cbetrayed their stated mission\u201d after the Deputy Coordinator of GEC told an October 2023 congressional hearing that the State Department entity does not do that “domestically.\u201d<\/p>\n

Critics immediately pounced Rogers\u2019 tactic, with heckler, Matt Van Swol posting: \u201cThis makes no logical sense.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy would you ask @DataRepublican to \u2018leak\u2019 documents that you could just release yourself? This isn\u2019t adding up. What aren\u2019t you telling us?\u201d Van Swol demanded.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy question is if ya\u2019ll are on the same side why is this on social media and not discussion in private?\u201d another Trump-supporting account posted.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you always trade info of our United States government as “gifts,” and do your colleagues?\u201d demanded another critic. \u201cIf so, please let us know those other instances and \u2018stories\u2019 of \u2018leaks\u2019<\/p>\n

Yet another critic, Alan Sanders Show podcast host Alan Sanders, called Roger\u2019s machinations an \u201cepic fail,\u201d posting: \u201cYou are not very good at this, are you? If this is something you could’ve easily done yourself, why wouldn’t you? It seems you’re struggling for some kind of plausible deniability \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

The QAnon account owner remained suspicious and hostile hours later, however.<\/p>\n

“To those all who are convincing me that I\u2019m acting on a misunderstanding – She knew my background. She knew the markings that would get me in trouble. She confirmed she\u2019d made all the \u201credactions\u201d necessary. The leaks given to me were of zero operational value to any effort. It\u2019s one thing to try and get me fired. It\u2019s another to try and get me to commit a crime.<\/p>\n
