A conservative radio host who has previously described President Donald Trump as \u201cimpotent\u201d and a \u201cclown\u201d told CNN anchor Anderson Cooper that he thinks the Republican leader is embarrassing himself by constantly spewing off on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m certain that staff around him is trying to get him focused right now,\u201d Erick Erickson told Cooper. \u201cAnd sometimes \u2014 I know from firsthand experience with Donald Trump \u2014 he is going to talk about what he wants to talk about, no matter how hard you try to redirect him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cooper asked, \u201cErick, do you think the president’s efforts to leave his mark on Washington are distracting from other issues?\u201d<\/p>\n

Erickson replied, \u201cI, God almighty, I just wish he would keep doing it and stay off social media and stay out of the cameras. I would rather focus on the renovations than \u2014 I mean, we’re at $40 trillion in national debt, and every time he touches it, it gets worse. So let’s just focus on the renovations. He’s surrounded by some smart people who can deal with these other issues \u2014 stay off social media.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cBut for the love of God, Mr. President, if you’re listening: stop letting people barf gold leaf all over the White House. It looks gaudy at this point. I just \u2014 I don’t get the obsession with it, but he’s 80 and wants to leave his mark, and at this point I’d rather him do that than be on Truth Social ranting about things that distract the country and drive down the stock market.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cooper then recommended the Maggie Haberman\/Jonathan Swan book \u201cRegime Change\u201d to Erickson, noting there is a scene in there where Trump himself put on some of the gold leaf. <\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, that is true,\u201d Erickson said. \u201cI did \u2014 yes, please stop. It’s starting to look like [him] on other people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite opposing Trump, Erickson is a Republican, as indicated by his disgust at how Trump\u2019s $1.776 billion slush fund to Jan. 6ers and other supporters could hurt his party\u2019s midterm prospects.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am morally opposed,\u201d Erickson said in May. \u201cI am philosophically opposed. I am intellectually opposed. I do not want my taxpayer dollars being used to enrich the pockets of the president’s friends.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cThis is a gift for the Democrats. This anti-weaponization fund by the Republican president is a gift to the Democratic Party. They can just campaign on the images of people breaking the windows and smashing the doors to get into the Capitol and saying, \u2018The President is rewarding these people with a billion dollars for doing it.\u2019 Whether it’s true or not, that’s going to sell to the American public. People are already frustrated with the President of the United States. This anti-weaponization fund is a giant pot of corruptible money.\u201d<\/p>\n
