President Donald Trump\u2019s niece, an esteemed psychiatrist, summed up her uncle\u2019s behavior with two harsh words \u2014 and did so after listening to a rant from one of his closest economic adviser.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeter Navarro, who always looks like he’s in pain, and I guess that’s fair because if you were him, you would be too, went on Steve Bannon’s podcast to lie about what he refers to as hard truths about the 2020 election,\u201d Dr. Mary L. Trump said on X, referring to Trump\u2019s trade adviser appearing on his informal strategist\u2019s program.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is what’s so wrong, Steve, with just about every journalist and outlet except War Room,\u201d Navarro told Bannon. \u201cIt’s like they won’t deal with the hard truth about what happened in 2020. And so we’re gonna keep working it and [pro-Trump John] Solomon is gonna do what Solomon does, keep getting more and more truth. [Sen. Chuck] Grassley [R-IA] is doing a great job at the Senate side. I don’t know what happened to [Rep.] Jim [Jordan, R-OH]. He has been so unhelpful in so many ways with that gavel in his hand, but we’re gonna put this little heat on there to get some stuff done. \u201c<\/p>\n

First Dr. Trump marveled at the fact that her uncle\u2019s \u201clie is so egregious that the vile Jim Jordan isn’t willing to help you push it, then maybe you should rethink your life,\u201d perhaps referring to reports that Jordan knew about a colleague molesting children while he was a wrestling coach and did nothing to stop it.<\/p>\n

Then she added, \u201cHere’s the thing, the hard truth that they can accept about the 2020 election is that Donald lost to Joe Biden by almost eight million votes, and he’s such a thin skinned little baby, he still cannot overcome that massive lethal\u201d \u2014 and then she used the insulting phrase \u201cnarcissistic injury.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Trump is not the first one to describe the president\u2019s narcissism as integral to understanding his behavior. Before he was president, he had a long history of being a sore loser, from incorrectly claiming the Emmys were rigged when his reality TV show did not receive nominations to falsely insisting that he had been cheated when he lost the 2016 Iowa caucuses to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and the 2016 presidential election\u2019s popular vote to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Shortly before the 2020 presidential election, then-Yale University psychiatrist Dr. Bandy X. Lee predicted that Trump would never accept if he lost because he would process the defeat as a form of narcissistic injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust as one once settled for adulation in lieu of love, one may settle for fear when adulation no longer seems attainable,\u201d Lee told Salon. \u201cRage attacks are common, for people are bound to fall short of expectation for such a needy personality\u2014and eventually everyone falls into this category. But when there is an all-encompassing loss, such as the loss of an election, it can trigger a rampage of destruction and reign of terror in revenge against an entire nation that has failed him.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cIt is far easier for the pathological narcissist to consider destroying oneself and the world, especially its \u2018laughing eyes,\u2019 than to retreat into becoming a \u2018loser\u2019 and a \u2018sucker\u2019 \u2014 which to someone suffering from this condition will feel like psychic death.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Trump has also criticized her uncle, from claiming he is suffering cognitive decline to saying he is trying to gaslight the American people about his failure to improve the economy.<\/p>\n
