White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, in an effort to \u201cknock down\u201d a Washington Post <\/em>report about President Donald Trump\u2019s heated meeting with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, appeared to accidentally verify the reporting, according to one Washington Post<\/em> journalist.<\/p>\n

The report in question claims Hegseth and Trump \u201cclashed\u201d during a Camp David summit last week as the president\u2019s \u201cfrustration over the Iran war boiled over.\u201d Trump reportedly \u201cdemanded answers from Hegseth on why he had apparently been misled on extreme munitions shortages that now threaten to limit military options with Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reuters reported Tuesday that \u201cthe U.S. Army has used up much of its global stockpile of highly accurate long-range missiles\u201d during the Iran war, including \u201cthe Army’s surface-to-surface weapons, known as Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) and Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM).\u201d Reuters, citing two sources, said the \u201cthe U.S. has used \u2018virtually all\u2019 of these weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump, during the Camp David Cabinet meeting, \u201cvented at Hegseth that he thought the munitions issue \u2018had been fixed,\u2019\u201d according to the Post<\/em>. The defense secretary \u201cdefended himself and blamed his deputy, Stephen Feinberg, for the shortages\u201d and for keeping Trump in the dark.<\/p>\n

On Truth Social Thursday, Trump denied the munitions shortage, insisting “The U.S. has massive amounts of ‘munitions,’ especially of certain types. Additionally, large amounts are being manufactured and shipped to the U.S. as needed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Late Wednesday night on X, Leavitt called the Post<\/em> report \u201cB.S.\u201d and claimed the altercation \u201cliterally never happened.\u201d Leavitt said the \u201cstory was shopped to many outlets by someone clearly out to disparage the secretary, for whatever reason. Unfortunately for them, the president loves the secretary and thinks he\u2019s doing a tremendous job.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leavitt closed her statement with an all-caps \u201cfake news!\u201d<\/p>\n

But, as Washington Post<\/em> military affairs reporter Dan Lamothe noted, the White House denial actually verifies a major element of the report.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe White House is trying to knock down tonight’s story by my colleagues in part by highlighting that Trump \u2018loves\u2019 Secretary Hegseth,\u201d Lamothe wrote on X. \u201cThe story never says otherwise. Instead, it reports that Hegseth got pressed by Trump on a specific, important issue.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cFurther, the Post<\/em> has reported previously that despite last year’s turmoil in the Pentagon, Hegseth has maintained Trump’s support,\u201d Lamothe added.<\/p>\n

Indeed the Washington Post<\/em> report included a quote from Leavitt herself, in which she denied the reporters’ claims and asserted Trump’s support of Hegseth. <\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Trump has the utmost confidence in Secretary Hegseth,\u201d Leavitt told the Post<\/em>, according to the Post<\/em>\u2019s own reporting.<\/p>\n
