Former Republican strategist Rick Wilson on Friday explained the \u201clegal framework\u201d officials will use to ensure President Donald Trump is able to run for a third term \u2014 despite the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution clearly stating: \u201cNo person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking with Maddie Hale, Wilson revealed \u201cthere are people right now exploring how they get the legal framework\u201d for Trump to run for a third term. Wilson described an army of \u201celected officials and think tank officials and people in this election denier legal community around Trump\u201d who \u201care all finding \u2014 or, trying to find \u2014 ways to say \u2018the 2020 election was invalid, therefore the 22nd Amendment is invalid.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s their current, sort of, winding but explicable legal thinking,\u201d Wilson added.<\/p>\n

The Lincoln Project co-founder said he believes that \u201clegal framework\u201d is precisely why Trump gave a poorly-received speech last month accusing China of meddling in the 2020 presidential election.<\/p>\n

Trump, in his speech, claimed China “‘carried out \u2018the largest compromise of election data in history\u2019 starting with the 2020 cycle, illicitly collecting 220 million voter files \u2018over a period of years,\u2019\u201d the New York Times<\/em> reported. The Times <\/em>described the claim as one of several Trump made that was \u201ceither overstated or untethered from reality.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Trump \u201cadministration published hundreds of pages of documents that were far more measured and reserved in their judgments about China and other election security issues,\u201d the Times<\/em> noted.<\/p>\n

Trump also used the speech to push for his SAVE America Act \u2014 a restrictive voter ID bill that\u2019s stalled out in Congress due to a lack of Republican support.<\/p>\n

As the AP reports, \u201cElection security experts say America\u2019s decentralized voting system, with the power over elections residing with the states instead of the federal government, is a strength. Americans vote in more than 10,000 different jurisdictions with different rules, making the nations\u2019 elections extraordinarily complicated but safe from widespread fraud.\u201d The AP notes \u201cno credible evidence\u201d shows that foreign actors successfully manipulated the 2020 presidential election, which was conducted under the president\u2019s first term in office.”<\/p>\n

A March 2021 federal intelligence report stated there were \u201cno indications that any foreign actor attempted to alter any technical aspect of the voting process in the 2020 US elections, including voter registration, casting ballots, vote tabulation or reporting results.”<\/p>\n

Former intelligence officials called the president\u2019s speech \u201cdangerous,\u201d including Sue Gordon, \u201cprincipal deputy director of national intelligence in Trump\u2019s first term,\u201d the AP reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe had an entire term to deal with it,” Gordon told CNN.<\/p>\n

The 25-minute primetime address did not present any new evidence of \u201cof a single fraudulent vote cast in any election,\u201d NPR reported last month.<\/p>\n
