Republican pundit and avid Trump supporter Scott Jennings pulled no punches during a Friday panel discussion over the DOJ\u2019s admission that it had no case to prosecute an Olympian for Reflecting Pool vandalism.<\/p>\n

The Trump administration dropped its case against a former Olympic canoeist charged in connection with damage to the Reflecting Pool late Friday after admitting their allegations against David \u201cDavey\u201d Hearn \u201cdon\u2019t hold water,\u201d NBC reported.<\/p>\n

A supervisor in the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the District of Columbia, headed by Jeanine Pirro, wrote that officials information undermined \u201cthe evidentiary basis for the indictment\u201d against Hearn.<\/p>\n

A flabbergasted Jennings told Erica Hill, guest anchor of CNN\u2019s \u201cThe Source,\u201d that he considered this a faceplant moment and an excruciating embarrassment for President Donald Trump\u2019s Department of Justice.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn this one, the administration looks like a monkey having intimate relations with a football,\u201d Jennings told Hill flatly. \u201cIt looks terrible. And, you know, after everything that was said, this guy, he is owed an apology. And I don’t know what the procedures are for it, but he ought to sue anybody that he thinks he can to get his name back. I have a strong reaction, to be honest with you, when people have their name dragged through the mud, and that’s obviously what happened here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pirro herself stood before an audience at the time of Hearn\u2019s indictment and called him a vandal who’d damaged the Reflecting pool with both hands.<\/p>\n

Democratic strategist Maria Cardona told Hill that this brutal humiliation will do nothing, however, to temper the Trump administration\u2019s willingness to use the DOJ as a weapon.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is owed an apology. And I think that Pirro should step down or she should be fired. I mean, this is an indication of the clown car that this administration has become and in an example of incompetence, of buffoonery and complete unseriousness,\u201d said Cardona. \u201cThis isn’t the only time where the department of justice has been seen as a vehicle to do Trump’s bidding, as opposed to dispensing justice under law for the American people. You even have judges across the country who are saying they don’t even trust the attorneys that are before them in cases, and various cases coming from the department of justice. This is just sort of the icing on that ridiculous, embarrassing cake.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI do think he’s owed an apology. I don’t think he’s going to get it,\u201d Cardona added. \u201cAnd I think that this is also going to reflect badly on Republicans, as we go into the midterm elections, as an example of so much that is wrong with this administration and the Republicans who have been unable and unwilling to stand up to it.\u201d<\/p>\n
