On Friday, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) posted<\/u> the assertion that some \u201cincompetent personal advisor\u201d had convinced President Donald Trump he should continue pursuing his controversial \u201cslush fund.\u201d Commentators have been guessing the identity of said advisor ever since, and many have drawn the same conclusion: it was Trump himself. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe President made it clear today that the so-called Anti Weaponization Fund is still alive, which is exactly why we are attempting to formally end it,\u201d posted Tillis. \u201cWhile I never disagreed that the Biden Administration pursued a number of vindictive prosecutions related to January 6, the criminals who assaulted police officers and defiled our nation\u2019s Capitol are not \u2018great American patriots\u2019 who are \u2018victims of government abuse.\u2019 Anyone who attacked law enforcement should still be in prison, not getting a check from the federal government.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tillis wrote this in response to an earlier post from Trump, in which the president claimed \u201cthere has never been a group of people treated so badly in our Nation\u2019s history,\u201d referring to January 6 insurrectionists and saying they should be “paid back.\u201d The Senator made it clear that he does not agree, writing, \u201cSenator Cornyn and I have been working with Acting AG Todd Blanche to end the Anti Weaponization Fund, and he has been forthright, thoughtful and patient. It\u2019s a shame his confirmation has hit a snag only because an incompetent personal advisor to the President refuses to amend the bogus settlement.\u201d<\/p>\n

The internet lit up with guesses as to who the advisor could be. <\/p>\n

Attorney and Democratic congressional candidate George Conway, who was formerly married to one of Trump\u2019s top first-term advisors, mused suggestively<\/u>, \u201cIs there a prediction market play on who the \u2018incompetent personal advisor\u2019 is?\u201d One response captured the gist of his implication, guessing, \u201cJohn Barron<\/u>\u201d \u2014 the name many suspect Trump uses as a pseudonym for calling into C-SPAN.<\/p>\n

\u201cJFC,\u201d declared<\/u> a popular political account. \u201cThe \u2018incompetent personal advisor\u2019 is TRUMP!\u201d<\/p>\n

“Incompetent personal advisor,\u201d noted another<\/u>. \u201cPresident Trump famously almost never takes advice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIs this \u2018advisor\u2019 physically inside of Trump’s head right now?\u201d wondered another<\/u>. \u201cAnswer: Yes, it’s Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cITS THE PRESIDENT HIMSELF DIPSH\u2013,\u201d said another still<\/u>. <\/p>\n

Others have asserted that it could be \u201canyone from that garbage administration<\/u>,\u201d someone else in the GOP, or Boris Epshteyn, Trump\u2019s personal senior counsel since 2025, whose team handled<\/u> Trump\u2019s IRS lawsuit. Many also took issue with Tillis, suggesting he was using the euphemism to avoid giving Trump his due blame.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve already pissed off Trump,\u201d said<\/u> one. \u201cWhy are you still deflecting his responsibility here?\u201d<\/p>\n
