A former Special Assistant to President Ronald Reagan effectively danced a jig on the grave of deceased South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, slashing the senator\u2019s bloody career of killing American soldiers and rampant war mongering.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis death has made America and the world a safer place,\u201d wrote Cato Institute fellow Doug Bandow in the American Conservative. \u201cIndeed, freed from Graham\u2019s stream of malign and belligerent whispers, perhaps President [Donald] Trump will return to his campaign commitment to put America first and end Washington\u2019s string of reckless and endless wars.\u201d<\/p>\n

Graham, he said, \u201cconstantly sacrificed American interests to win the favor of an unsavory mix of foreign agents, democratic hacks, clever manipulators, and brutal dictators. Unfortunately, he was an unusually effective warmonger. After the death of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in 2018, Graham succeeded him as the informal leader of Washington\u2019s notorious bipartisan war party, ever ready to send Americans overseas to fight wars for special interests and other nations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Graham \u201cwas never happier than when plotting another crusade for Americans to fight,\u201d said Bandow. \u201cHis bloodlust was on constant display. He was most ebullient when palling around with foreign leaders responsible for the deaths of thousands, or better yet, tens of thousands of foreigners, usually civilians.\u201d<\/p>\n

The senator, he said was happy \u201csacrificing so many young Americans to bring \u2018democracy\u2019 to Central Asia,\u201d but he also wanted to turn even more of them into \u201cpermanent colonial overseers.\u201d He backed the Saudi leader’s \u201chorrid war in Yemen, murderous aggression launched to turn that nation into a de facto royal colony,\u201d and he eventually \u201creclaimed his membership in the \u201cMbS fan club\u201d after the leader\u2019s grotesque murder and dismemberment of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.<\/p>\n

A onetime Air Force JAG officer who \u201cnever came close to combat,\u201d Bandow said Graham \u201csmoothly shifted to permanent groveling \u2014 intentionally, knowingly, convincingly, shamelessly \u2014 once Trump took power.\u201d The senator practically \u201ccried tears of joy\u201d when Trump attacked Iran, \u201crather than tears of sadness when Americans were killed in that unnecessary war,\u201d which was as Bandow describes it, \u201chis most malign role.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSuch a legacy,\u201d howls Bandow. \u201cHis last major foreign policy initiative was to push an illegal, immoral war of aggression. Some consequences: Americans killed, U.S. bases devastated, American wealth wasted, Gulf partners damaged, oil markets wrecked, and a shaken global economy. For all that trouble, Iran\u2019s power over the energy trade has been enhanced and its need for nuclear weapons has been made plain. Heckuva job, Lindsey!\u201d<\/p>\n

Bandow said Graham\u2019s \u201cpassing is a personal tragedy [but] his departure from the halls of power should be welcomed.\u201d<\/p>\n
