Despite the latest vague claims from his office, Sen. Mitch McConnell’s health status remains shrouded in mystery, which, as The Daily Beast noted in a new report, has Republicans fuming with “frustration” over the disruptions the situation is causing.<\/p>\n

McConnell, the Kentucky Republican best known for his years as Senate Majority Leader, has been hospitalized since mid-June after reportedly being found unconscious in his home. Since then, his office has been notably unforthcoming with details about his condition, claiming only that he is recovering without presenting any evidence. An attempt to dispel conspiracy theories with a “proof of life” photo earlier this month did little to squash speculation, especially among those demanding video evidence that he is alive and in a decent condition.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, The Washington Post reported on a new statement from McConnell’s office, claiming that he was continuing to conduct Senate business during his supposed recovery, while providing no actual evidence of him doing so.<\/p>\n

“The Senator continues to meet with staff regarding Senate and Kentucky business, including discussions on defense appropriations, foreign policy, the farm bill, constituent services and constituent federal grant requests,\u201d spokesman David Popp claimed in the new statement. \u201cAs the Senator continues to improve in rehab, we will be sure to keep you updated.\u201d<\/p>\n

In their own report on the statement, The Daily Beast noted that it “is keeping with a trend from McConnell\u2019s office, which remained silent about his health for several weeks after he was hospitalized,” and that “It remains unclear when McConnell will return to work on Capitol Hill.” The outlet also noted how much Republicans in the Senate are beginning to grow frustrated with the lack of real transparency around McConnell, especially given the party’s “razor-thin majority” in the chamber. The abrupt recent passing of GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham further threatened that margin as well.<\/p>\n

“Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso, as well as CNN\u2019s in-house MAGA host Scott Jennings, each claim to have spoken on the phone with McConnell while he has been in the hospital,” the report detailed. “However, some Senate Republicans are expressing frustration that they do not know more about his condition, especially given the party\u2019s razor-thin majority in the upper chamber.” <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know anything about McConnell\u2019s health. I know zero. I\u2019m totally in the dark, and I certainly wish him well and his family,\u201d Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley said last week, as highlighted by The Daily Beast. \u201cI do think that at a certain point you have an obligation to your constituents and country to tell them what\u2019s going on.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I don\u2019t hear much. I was, uh, never a huge fan,\u201d President Donald Trump said. \u201cI hope he\u2019s going to be fine. I\u2014I don\u2019t know if he\u2019s fine, but I certainly hope he\u2019s going to be fine.” <\/p>\n
