Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) is inspiring some heated debates, with “Real Time” host Bill Maher praising him as a voice of reason in the Democratic Party while many progressive Democrats believe he has moved to far to the right. Now, Fetterman is threatening to leave the Democratic Party if it becomes “the anti-Israel party,” and his comments are generating a wide range of responses on X, formerly Twitter.<\/p>\n

Fetterman, at the Hill Nation Summit in Washington, DC on Wednesday, July 15, said that at the moment, he has “no plans” to leave the Democratic Party. But the Pennsylvania senator added, “If our party ever becomes \u2014 and just makes it official \u2014 the anti-Israel party, that’s when I would leave because that\u2019s been a moral clarity for me\u2026. My long-term concern has been with the Democratic Party, as I am a member of that, is that our party is going to back away and turn their back to Israel.”<\/p>\n

Fetterman’s defenders are pointing out that Pennsylvania is very much a swing state, not a deep blue state like Massachusetts or California or a deep red state like Idaho, Alabama or Wyoming \u2014 and that he can’t afford to be too left-wing in a state that favored Joe Biden in 2020 but narrowly went for Donald Trump in 2016 and 2024. <\/p>\n

On X, Fetterman’s views on Israel and the Democratic Party are drawing both positive and negative comments.<\/p>\n

Retired journalist Eric Fettman, a self-described “proud and unapologetic Zionist,” doesn’t believe that leaving the Democratic Party and becoming an independent would be bad for the Pennsylvania senator.<\/p>\n

Fettman tweeted, “Run as an independent. Current PA voter registration is 43 percent Dem, 41 percent Rep and 16 percent other or none. If he wins the votes of those D-Rs who approve and just 20 percent of others, that’s a 44 percent of the November vote, making a three-way race winnable.”<\/p>\n

Conservative photographer Roger Baumgarten said of Fetterman, “It’s insane. He still votes 85+ percent with the Democrats, but because he strays from the open-borders and elimination-of-Israel reservation, he must be destroyed. Tell me again, @TheDemocrats, how you are the ‘big tent’ party?”<\/p>\n

Eric Daugherty, chief content creator for Right Line News, tweeted, “A new poll just found that NEARLY 60 percent of Pennsylvania Democrats are demanding Sen. John Fetterman leave the Democrat Party \u2014 Quinnipiac A whopping 78 PERCENT of PA REPUBLICANS approve of Fetterman, while only 19 percent of Democrats approve\u2026. Fetterman faces 2 difficult choices: Jump ship and register as a Republican, seek reelection as a Republican, but be a more moderate GOP vote[.] Stay on as a Democrat, face a tough and costly primary, and risk flipping the state red because of Democrat division and funding issues.”<\/p>\n

But some liberal and progressive X users would be glad to see Fetterman leave the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n

X user Patricia Sisson posted, “How could we have predicted that sweet, thoughtful guy would have a stroke and turn into a malevolent piece of s\u2013\u2013? Has anyone talked to his family or community to see what they think about his turn to the dark side? “<\/p>\n

Another X user, Jethro Remington, wrote, “I hate this man. @SenFettermanPA represents everything that is wrong with America. I’d like to say that I have known someone as slimy as he is, so I could give an example of why I so despise him, but in 70 years I’ve never met such a camera-loving, hypocritical non-human.”<\/p>\n

Progressive Susie Rizzio tweeted, “Senator John Fetterman is a DINO [and] has been since day [and] he ran as a Democrat because he couldn’t win as a Republican because a lot of people in Pennsylvania knew his history. He votes Republican & takes up for anyone that the Democrats have an issue with.” <\/p>\n
