On Sunday, President Donald Trump made a \u201cstunning admission\u201d that revealed his media manipulation plans. Few seemed to notice it, but according to political analyst Dan Pfeiffer<\/u> \u2014 former senior advisor to President Barack Obama \u2014 Trump\u2019s \u201cconfession\u201d not only exposed his intentions, but should be recognized as a \u201cwarning sign for democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Pfeiffer explains, following the death of Lindsey Graham, Trump made a series of calls to Sunday news programs to discuss the departed Senator. Then while talking with Jake Tapper for CNN, Trump let something slip in what Pfeiffer calls a \u201cstunning exchange.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI know you don’t want to talk about any other issues out of respect for Lindsey Graham,\u201d said Tapper, \u201cbut we would love to have you back sometime because I do have a lot of other questions.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSure,\u201d responded Trump. \u201cWe’re trying to have CNN go on a normal path.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m on the normal path right here, sir,\u201d Tapper replied. <\/p>\n

\u201cGood,\u201d said Trump. \u201cYou are.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThink about this for a minute,\u201d writes Pfeiffer. \u201cTrump says \u2018WE are trying to get CNN to go down a normal path.\u2019 He is admitting on live television that the FCC\u2019s approval of Paramount Skydance\u2019s acquisition was part of a corrupt plan to make CNN more MAGA-friendly.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Pfeiffer explains, \u201cDavid Ellison, the pro-Trump billionaire who owns Paramount, reportedly made promises to Trump to change CNN\u2019s news coverage and on-air lineup. And this is exactly what Ellison did when he acquired CBS News. He installed Bari Weiss, a conservative opinion journalist with no TV news experience, to oversee the network. Weiss and Ellison immediately began gutting 60 Minutes, the news program that has been most at odds with Trump over the years. It seems like CNN is the next media outlet in line for a billionaire-funded MAGA makeover.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Pfeiffer\u2019s estimation, \u201cTrump\u2019s blatant admission shows just how aggressive the right is being to remake the media in their image. It\u2019s a warning sign for democracy, and it\u2019s a call to arms for Democrats to get their s\u2013\u2013 together and start fighting fire with fire.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shortly after Pfeiffer published his thoughts on Tuesday, Senator Bernie Sanders<\/u> (D-VT) happened to post on the matter, noting, \u201cLarry Ellison spent $45 million to elect Trump\u2026Trump’s DOJ approved Ellison’s takeover of CNN & CBS. In a democracy, the president does not control the media.\u201d Based on this, Sanders asserts that \u201cstate AGs must block the Ellison-led Paramount-Warner Bros. merger.\u201d Warner Bros. Discovery owns CNN, and the merger would give Ellison carte blanche to shape it as he sees fit. Currently, 12 states are suing<\/u> to prevent the merger. <\/p>\n
