President Donald Trump is allegedly benefiting from a double standard in which his health issues are not scrutinized as much as those of his Democratic predecessor \u2014 at least, according to a child of that same former president.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m never gonna convince Jake Tapper that my father was perfectly capable of executing his charge as president of the United States the entire time he was president of The United States,\u201d Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, told journalist Tommy Christopher for a Substack interview for Jim Acosta in an interview published on Thursday. The younger Biden was referring to Trump\u2019s repeated gaffes and alleged signs of dementia, which became particularly prominent during his recent trip to Turkey.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I don\u2019t understand is, I think … that it really does have these cult dynamics that are part of it,\u201d Biden told Christopher. \u201cWhich is that when people are presented with the evidence, … like the lunar eclipse didn\u2019t occur and the spaceship didn\u2019t arrive and we weren\u2019t all teleported to Venus. Like, when that doesn\u2019t happen with the cult leader … they just double down. They double down because they\u2019re so invested into the entirety of the narrative that they bought into and made it part of their identity.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that Trump recently appeared to fall asleep while his cabinet stood behind him, closing his eyes and yet, as Acosta put it, being defended by his supporters as supposedly \u201cjust blinking.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were moments in time where people said, \u2018Oh look at Joe Biden!\u2019 when he would sit down like that and I thought that that was unfair,\u201d the younger Biden told Acosta. \u201cAnd so what they do is they play the whole tape though. And he literally is sleeping! He\u2019s sleeping. There\u2019s no like a way around it. It is not once, it is not twice. It\u2019s over and over and again now.\u201d<\/p>\n

The younger Biden said he suspects Trump’s drowsiness has to do with his heart, noting the bruises on his hands and neck, his lengthy absences and a recent period when he had \u201cdrooping of the right side of his face.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s clearly he has a pulmonary issue,\u201d Biden said. \u201c… or something else. I\u2019m not a doctor, but he\u2019s clearly got something. And by the way, that\u2019s okay, too but they\u2019re never gonna tell us the reality of what\u2019s going on because we don\u2019t deserve it. We don\u2019t deserve that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking to AlterNet for this article, former Tufts University psychiatrist Dr. Henry Abraham \u2014 who recently lead a letter to Congress expressing alarm over what he claimed were signs of Trump\u2019s cognitive decline \u2014 agreed with the younger Biden\u2019s analysis.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst of all, I think Biden’s performance during that one debate was pretty emblematic of a probable dementing process; unfortunately, or fortunately, that was the only real window we had onto his infirmities of old age,\u201d Abraham told AlterNet. \u201cThat’s not the case with Trump \u2014 Trump has given us a huge data set of red flags. It’s hard to imagine any reasonable psychiatrist seeing those in any patient and not recognizing them for what they are. So the data set on one side is very small; the data set on the other is the largest we’ve ever had for any sitting president.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abraham added, \u201cMore data is better than less data \u2014 that’s the best I can say. So \u2014 is it a double standard? Sounds like a double standard, or \u2014 I’d call it a quadruple standard.\u201d<\/p>\n
