And dog whistles count, too,\u201d said Senior Judge Paul Friedman of the US District Court for the District of Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to a crowd of lawyers and judges earlier this year, Friedman said Trump, since winning reelection in 2024, has \u201cratcheted up to a new level his personal, vitriolic attacks on judges who have ruled against him or with whom he disagrees,\u201d said Friedman, adding that his attacks \u201chave gotten more partisan, more personal, more threatening, and more purposefully misleading than ever before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Combined with Trump\u2019s \u201cincitement\u201d of the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol and eventual pardons of those rioters, Friedman said Trump \u201ccontributed significantly\u201d toward a trend of threatening judges.<\/p>\n<p>It is a damning blast from a sitting judge, but Friedman is only the latest judge to warn of rising threats to judges and how the intimidations impact the judicial system\u2019s independence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFriedman, in his prepared remarks, recounted specific comments Trump made about the judges who oversaw the various criminal and civil cases against him in a personal capacity,\u201d reports Bloomberg. \u201cHe also highlighted Trump\u2019s remarks about those who have ruled against him since he returned to office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nextaddressamerica.com\/?p=303\">Consumer confidence hits grim milestone that sank Trump\u2019s predecessor<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Trump called Washington\u2019s Chief Judge James Boasberg a \u201cRadical Left Lunatic of a Judge\u201d after Boasberg ruled against deportations of alleged gang members under a wartime authority. Trump also called Supreme Court justices who ruled against him on his controversial and unpopular tariffs as \u201cfools and lapdogs,\u201d reports Bloomberg.<\/p>\n<p>But Friedman pointed out that Trump metaphorically covers with kisses judges who rule in his favor: \u201cApparently judges who rule for President Trump \u2014 like Judges Aileen Cannon in Florida in the Mar-a-Lago documents case and Matthew Kacsmaryk in Texas in the FDA approval of mifepristone case \u2014 are just wonderful, while those who rule against him are lunatics, agitators, fools, and insurrectionists,\u201d Friedman said.<\/p>\n<p>Friedman also hit Trump\u2019s enabling Republican-controlled Congress with damage, calling the GOP lawmakers \u201ccomplicit\u201d in the president\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt almost never second-guesses the President or joins in legislation designed to curb his excesses \u2014 even when one of his executive orders violates a statute enacted by Congress,\u201d Friedman pointed out.
