President Donald Trump is pushing Republicans to hold a midterm election convention, and Politics USA founder Jason Easley says Democrats could not hope for better timing.<\/p>\n

\u201cDonald Trump is the least popular president in the history of polling. Republicans who are running for House and Senate seats need to be getting as far away from this orange anchor as they can,\u201d Easley wrote. \u201c[But] no matter how much Republicans think that they can hold an election where Donald Trump is not the issue in their states and districts, the president continues to hijack the midterm election and make it all about himself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump unleashed his latest idea coming off of the failed Great American State Fair with its low turnout, posting on Truth Social: \u201cBIG NEWS! For the first time ever, the Republican Party will hold a MIDTERM CONVENTION. It will be in Dallas, Texas \u2014 One of my favorite places in the World. It will be fantastic!\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump further promised the event will be \u201ca truly Historic Event\u201d to celebrate \u201cthe GREAT AMERICAN COMEBACK.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Easley said Trump will likely \u2018rub his stink of failure all over\u201d Republican candidates from coast to coast by holding the convention, and the president\u2019s claimed success on \u201cno tax on tips\u201d and \u201cstronger borders\u201d won\u2019t gather much interest among the U.S. voters watching the convention. Furthermore, Trump\u2019s stated claim to \u201clower costs and real affordability\u201d will likely draw confused looks or outright anger among Americans who are facing rising inflation costs leading into the November midterms.<\/p>\n

But this, like many things, said Easley, comes down to appeasing Trump\u2019s ego.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrump is going to hold a convention so that he can be the center of attention,\u201d said Easley. \u201cTrump is apparently also going to try to play concert promoter again after the Great American State Fair debacle, so prepare yourself for multiple performances of Proud To Be An American by Lee Greenwood. \u2026 Just in case you were curious, Trump is dedicating two nights to sinking Republican chances in the midterm election\u201d<\/p>\n

Recent polling reveals Trump\u2019s numbers are about as flat as they can fall, even with MAGA diehards sticking to him regardless of economics. And Republicans themselves are terrified of the upcoming November elections, and the likely drumming it will bring as voters work to reign in Trump\u2019s various power grabs.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrump wants every American to know that he is on the ballot in November,\u201d said Easley, adding that the idea of a Republican midterm election starring Trump will be \u201ca dream come true for Democrats.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe midterm convention will be a fiasco, and it will give Democrats what they want,\u201d he said. \u201cDonald Trump will be front and center in voters’ minds before the election in November.\u201d<\/p>\n
