According to reports, the meeting with Senate Republicans \u201cdid not go well.\u201d<\/p>\n

CNN\u2019s Manu Raju reported that Blanche faced \u201cstiff resistance.\u201d He added that he was \u201ctold most senators voiced opposition to the fund \u2014 hardly any came to its defense.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBlanche struggled Thursday to quash GOP concerns over a newly announced $1.8 billion \u2018anti-weaponization\u2019 fund,\u201d Politico reports. \u201cBlanche met privately with Senate Republicans as the administration and GOP leaders tried to defuse the controversy over the fund.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNearly 2-hour meeting with Acting AG Todd Blanche and Senate Republicans was incredibly hostile, per multiple attendees,\u201d Punchbowl News senior congressional reporter Andrew Desiderio reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs many as 25 GOP senators spoke (this is very rare for these meetings), all in opposition to weaponization fund,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

For their part, Republicans \u201cpitched specific ideas such as dictating how the 5 commissioners are chosen,\u201d and \u201cnot allowing people convicted of violence against cops to be eligible for a payout.\u201d<\/p>\n

One prominent Senate Republican, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, confronted Blanche \u201cabout the weaponization fund at the Senate GOP meeting,\u201d reported Semafor congressional bureau chief Burgess Everett. <\/p>\n

\u201cMeeting being described as a \u2018s\u2014\u2014\u2019 per people familiar with it,\u201d Everett noted. He added that the senator \u201chates the fund\u201d and called it \u201cstupid on stilts\u201d earlier today.<\/p>\n

Not only did the meeting not go well, the D.C. Examiner\u2019s Ramsey Touchberry said that he hasn\u2019t heard that any Republican changed their minds. The D.C. Examiner\u2019s David Sivak described the Senate GOP as \u201csuper tight-lipped after the Blanche meeting.\u201d<\/p>\n
