CNN on Friday aired a supercut of Republican senators criticizing President Donald Trump\u2019s Iran deal, with host Audie Cornish describing leaders as \u201ckind of up in arms\u201d over the president\u2019s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Iranian regime.<\/p>\n

Kurt Volker, an American diplomat and former U.S. ambassador to NATO, joined CNN to discuss the deal, telling Cornish \u201cthere’s a lot to play out here.\u201d<\/p>\n

As Cornish described, \u201cthe people who are loudest in their complaints about this deal are Republicans.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’re just hearing so many senators saying similar things,\u201d Cornish said before rolling the supercut.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything I’ve heard about it causes me concern,\u201d Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do have concerns that certain aspects of this deal might be a step in the wrong direction,\u201d Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AK) noted. \u201cI have to know where that money is coming from, because I don’t think my constituents are going to be really happy about it, if that’s all U.S. taxpayer dollars,\u201d Sen. Joni Earnst told reporters. \u201cHistory demonstrates that giving billions of dollars to theocratic lunatics who want to murder us is an exceptionally bad idea,\u201d Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) argued.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo people are kind of up in arms about many things, but specifically, the $300 billion potential reconstruction and development fund, which is supposed to be an investment fund,\u201d Cornish said. \u201cAnd Senator Roger Wicker of Mississippi is the top Republican. He was saying look, I get that it’s not funded by taxpayer dollars but it’s still a payoff. And he’s saying it’s a payoff that would make [Former President Barack] Obama\u2019s 2015 deal look like a pittance by comparison.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, that’s exactly right,\u201d Volker agreed. “That’s the one part of this thing that is the most mystifying at all: Why there’s any money changing hands here.\u201d \u201cBut they’re saying there isn’t, right. They’re arguing that money isn’t changing hands,\u201d Cornish noted.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, they say that, but then you look and you say sanctions are being lifted. Iran is getting oil sales. There will be a reconstruction fund that the gulf states will organize. That’s money,\u201d Volker replied. <\/p>\n
