Online critics are blasting U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum\u2019s press team for politicizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool by comparing now-dead algae, which reached five-year-high levels, to the remnants of the Iranian Navy \u2014 all while taking a swipe at President Barack Obama.<\/p>\n

According to The Washington Post on Thursday, Reflecting Pool algae has \u201croared back,\u201d reaching the \u201chighest levels in years.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Donald Trump vowed in April to clean up what he called the \u2018filthy\u2019 and \u2018disgusting\u2019 water in the Reflecting Pool,\u201d the Post reported. \u201cHe promised to resurface the basin to eliminate persistent leaking and to paint it \u2018American flag blue.\u2019 Once the pool started to be refilled, on June 4, he praised its \u2018clean, beautiful water.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAn analysis of satellite imagery of the Lincoln Memorial shows algae levels spiked days after a $14 million renovation was completed,\u201d the Post noted.<\/p>\n

But not according to the Interior Department, which declared hours earlier, late Wednesday night, that the algae problem had been eliminated \u2014 just like the Iranian Navy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Reflecting Pool water is crystal clear, and our National Park Service team is now vacuuming up the dead algae resting on the bottom of some parts of the Reflecting Pool\u2014just like the destroyed Iranian Navy resting on the bottom of the Persian Gulf,\u201d an Interior Department social media post declared.<\/p>\n

Interior did not stop there.<\/p>\n

\u201cPrevious administrations\u2014most notably under Obama\u2014failed to maintain the Reflecting Pool, and after refilling the pool, the water would quickly become murky and thick with massive clumps of algae floating on the surface,\u201d it said, before attacking the media as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs our National Park Service team noted, the Reflecting Pool is now so \u2018blue\u2019 that the Fake News Media, which has been staked out at the Reflecting Pool for weeks, has fled!\u201d<\/p>\n

Online critics blasted Interior\u2019s post.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy the hell is my government\u2019s interior press account making jabs at foreign affairs? FFS, yall supposed to be adults, and you\u2019re acting like petulant children,\u201d wrote one critic. \u201c\u2018Funny\u2019 is not something I want from my administration. I want resolutions. I want fixes. They are more obsessed with social media & making good clips than making our lives affordable, our wages higher, giving us healthcare.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAmericans died in this war,\u201d noted communications strategist and political analyst Melik Abdul. \u201cPlease stop disrespecting them by comparing the circumstances surrounding their deaths to vacuuming algae. Stick with what you do best and leave your military fantasies out of it. It\u2019s lazy and childish.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat purpose does lying serve America?\u201d asked another critic. \u201cAnyone can view the live feed, and see the pool is still green and very much NOT clear. The entire pool is still green, with a couple tiny spots clear, but refilling with Algae as noted from two days ago to this morning the entire edge is refilled with green.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cComparing the algae in the reflecting pool after its $14.2 million fraud, waste, and abuse paint job to Iran\u2019s navy isn\u2019t the flex the Department of Interior seems to think it is,\u201d wrote U.S. Air Force Colonel (Ret.) Moe Davis.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an actual U.S. government account spewing deceptive propaganda comparing Trump\u2019s failed Reflecting Pool renovation to his failed Iran War and Memorandum of Understanding,\u201d wrote another critic.<\/p>\n

Not all remarks were critical. U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) responded to the Interior Dept.\u2019s post by writing: \u201cThis warms my heart.\u201d<\/p>\n
