Michael Wolff, the longtime biographer of President Donald Trump, is preparing for the Commander in Chief\u2019s \u201cdemise,\u201d he announced<\/u> on Wednesday. While Wolff asserted that he\u2019s on \u201ca literal deathwatch, as the 80-year-old, obese, sleepless, unfit man, consuming his mortal fast-food diet and overdose of aspirin, seems to do everything possible to kill himself,\u201d he\u2019s also referring to the \u201cdownfall\u201d of Trump\u2019s political movement.<\/p>\n

\u201cDonald Trump\u2019s end is going to happen,\u201d Wolff declared. \u201cWe\u2019re seeing it now. Below the surface of his anger, threats, and bloviation, it\u2019s all coming apart: national fury over the economy, the war, his grift, masked men in the streets, his defacing of Washington, D.C. And, of course, there are his terrible, ever-sinking poll numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Wolff, \u201cHe doesn\u2019t retreat; he doesn\u2019t course correct; he only doubles down. We are now seeing his kick-off midterm strategy: he can\u2019t win the election \u2014 so he will wage an angry, aggressive, possibly violent campaign against the election itself. As always, it is Trump against the system. He believes he wins, or at least gets a draw, because he is louder, more outlandish, more bilious, more frightening than any response the system can offer.\u201d But as Wolff points out, the president\u2019s cratering poll numbers and growing pushback from Republican lawmakers suggest otherwise.<\/p>\n

Wolff is far from the only political insider forecasting Trump\u2019s impending downfall. According to longtime campaign strategist James Carvelle, the president is going to resign by next spring. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s going to walk away because the pain that is coming for him, both the emotional pain and the physical deterioration, you watch it right in front of your eyes,\u201d said Carville<\/u> on Wednesday. \u201cI don\u2019t have to be a doctor to see this guy can\u2019t move. He can\u2019t get out of a chair. I know what it\u2019s like to be in the 80s. And unlike a lot of people, I know what that job is like, and it\u2019s not compatible. You know, maybe there\u2019s some people 80 who could do that. He\u2019s not one.\u201d <\/p>\n

Wednesday brought still more political commentators noting Trump\u2019s deteriorating health and collapsing presidency. According to Atlantic editor and speechwriter to three Republican presidents Peter Wehner<\/u>, it has become clear that Trump has \u201centered his decline\u201d as his \u201cregime \u2014 and the 80-year-old man who leads it \u2014 is breaking apart.\u201d<\/p>\n

What\u2019s more, Trump\u2019s \u201cword salad and cognitive confusion\u201d have been on display for the world to see while he\u2019s attended the G7 summit<\/u>, where his fragile appearance and bizarre actions have prompted Republican political strategist Steve Schmidt<\/u> to wonder about the president\u2019s \u201cfrightening progression of symptoms.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Trump\u2019s \u201caggression, incompetence, and self-destructiveness\u201d are bringing him down, Wolff warns that it \u201cdoes not mean that Trump ceases to be dangerous.\u201d His health and support may be tanking, but he\u2019s still in office for now, and according to Wolff, \u201cThe more threatened he is, the more dangerous he becomes.\u201d<\/p>\n
