Now, after President Donald Trump invoked the beloved show, one of its stars has some choice words for the real-world commander-in-chief. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nextaddressamerica.com\/?p=1460\">Trump\u2019s gives away the game with claim voters don\u2019t have \u2018appetite\u2019 for his war<\/a><\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, after launching a new round of strikes against Iran in retaliation for shooting down an Apache helicopter, Trump shared a clip from the series in which its fictional President Bartlet, played by Martin Sheen, rejects the concept of a \u201cproportional response\u201d militarily. This was followed by a response from one of the show\u2019s leading actors. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeep my show\u2019s name out of your f\u2014\u2014 mouth,\u201d <u>posted<\/u> Bradley Whitford, who in the series played White House Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman. <\/p>\n<p>The clip in question is from the Season 1 episode \u201cA Proportional Response.\u201d It portrays President Bartlet grappling with how to respond after the Syrian government shoots down an American military plane, and suggesting that the response should be \u201cdisproportional.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet the word ring forth from this time and this place, gentlemen \u2014 you kill an American, any American, we don\u2019t come back with a proportional response,\u201d <u>Sheen\u2019s character declares<\/u>. \u201cWe come back with total disaster!\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nextaddressamerica.com\/?p=1458\">Trump-endorsed sheriff\u2019s former office says he got special treatment in misconduct probe<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Trump posted the clip shortly after announcing that the U.S. launched \u201cself-defense strikes\u201d on Iran, asserting that the \u201cmission is a proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression.\u201d His follow-up with the clip implied that he dislikes the idea of a proportional response. As many have noted, however, he seems to have missed the point the show was trying to make. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot to be a pitchman for Aaron Sorkin and media literacy,\u201d posted media writer <u>Evan DeSimone<\/u>, referencing the show\u2019s creator, \u201cbut the whole point of that scene was that President Bartlett was wrong and acting irresponsibly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for Whitford, this isn\u2019t the only time the actor has put Trump on blast, and it\u2019s not even the first time one of his series has become entangled in the politics of MAGA. <\/p>\n<p>Whitford currently stars in The Handmaid\u2019s Tale, which portrays a United States that has collapsed into a theocratic state in which women are strictly controlled. Based on a book of the same name by renowned Canadian novelist Margaret Atwood, the show\u2019s themes of illiberalism and misogyny and focus on a far-right society have drawn numerous comparisons to Trump and the wider MAGA movement. Over the course of his two administrations, the red dresses and white hoods worn by the show\u2019s \u201chandmaids\u201d \u2014 women whose freedoms are completely erased and who live in reproductive slavery \u2014 have become common protest symbols.
