Speaker of the House Mike Johnson was quick to defend President Donald Trump\u2019s widely reported remarks following Wednesday\u2019s sharp spike in inflation, which is now at a three-year high.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew somebody was going to ask me that,\u201d Johnson told CNN\u2019s Manu Raju as he stepped into range of Raju’s microphone. \u201cIt was totally out of context, you know what he was talking about.\u201d<\/p>\n

When pressed whether Trump\u2019s remarks were what voters want to hear right now, Johnson insisted that the president \u201cis laser-focused on the domestic economic situation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is working to bring down prices, he is going to get the Strait of Hormuz reopened,\u201d Johnson insisted. \u201cWe have passed legislation, he has used executive orders to get the cost of living down. Everybody got their highest tax refunds they\u2019ve had in their whole lives, they\u2019re getting great paychecks, there\u2019s all sorts of great economic indicators, but there\u2019s still challenges \u2014 gas prices among them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, what he was saying is, it\u2019s going to be great having that number and compare it to what comes next when we get these situations resolved \u2014 that\u2019ll be a fun thing to consider and compare \u2014 that was the context,\u201d said the Speaker.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the inflation report, as CNBC reported, Trump had told reporters: \u201cNo, I love it, the numbers were great.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know what I really love? I love the inflation. You know why?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause as soon as this war is over, you know I can say it now \u2026 you know we\u2019ve been taking out millions of barrels of oil.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody knows it. You know who doesn\u2019t know about it? Iran, until right now,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

CNBC noted that Trump, \u201cspeaking with reporters in the Oval Office, also predicted that inflation is \u2018going to come down like a rock\u2019 after the United States\u2019 war against Iran is over.\u201d<\/p>\n

Critics blasted Speaker Johnson online.<\/p>\n

Trump: “I don’t care about you, I just want your vote!” MAGA: “Taken out of context.” Trump: “I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation.” MAGA: “Taken out of context.” Trump: “I love the inflation.” MAGA: “Taken out of context,” spat one heckler on X.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrump meant what he said and if people are taking things outta context maybe Trump should speak English,\u201d said one social media user.<\/p>\n

Others called Johnson a \u201cTrump apologist.\u201d<\/p>\n

“No, no they were NOT taken out of context and Mike Johnson is a little b\u2014\u2014 !” howled one critic.<\/p>\n

Another remarked, \u201cAaaand, right on cue, here\u2019s Mike Johnson, denying Trump said and meant what we all heard him say.\u201d<\/p>\n
