It\u2019s hard for many Americans not to feel the increased pain at the pump and the agony of steady inflation in grocery stores, but Mann said an isolated president surrounding himself with yes-men and good news artists might be totally unaware of just how wrong things have gone in Iran.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m always reluctant to attribute crises to the personal shortcomings of Trump because doing so can obscure the structural, often bipartisan failures behind his policies. \u2026 But at this point, it\u2019s hard to ignore the evidence that Trump\u2019s lack of urgency to sign a deal with Tehran is in part because he\u2019s been very<\/em> slow to understand the actual situation on the ground,\u201d reports Mann. <\/p>\n

Trump went into this battle expecting an easy victory similar to the regime swap in Venezuela. Mann says you can tell because weeks later, Trump and his minions were still looking for an Iranian second-in-command to hand over the country\u2019s reins to \u2014 as if that were a possibility.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrump\u2019s trusted advisers \u2013 both in the Situation Room and on Fox News \u2013 rarely if ever deliver bad news about the war, whether out of ideological desire to see the president \u2018finish the job,\u2019 or because they\u2019re afraid he\u2019ll shoot the messenger,\u201d said Mann. \u201cTucker Carlson\u2019s accusation that Trump\u2019s staff presents him with fake polling on the popularity of the war isn\u2019t hard to believe, given reports that Trump\u2019s Iran intel briefs don\u2019t just minimize bad news; sometimes, they\u2019re just videos of stuff blowing up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of course, the rest<\/em> of the world outside the president\u2019s ignorant bubble knows Iranian leaders still have the drones, missiles, and underground bunkers necessary to drag the U.S. into a full-on Vietnam-style quagmire. U.S. intelligence agencies keep leaking these more honest assessments directly to the public \u2014 probably in hopes that the info will eventually \u201creach Trump\u2019s ears,\u201d said Mann.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not sure those facts are getting through; likewise, I\u2019d be surprised if Trump has absorbed that the U.S. economy is inching toward a recession because of Tehran\u2019s closure of the Strait of Hormuz,\u201d said Mann. <\/p>\n

And it\u2019s not like the people running U.S markets are helping, being similarly \u201cdetached from reality,\u201d said Mann.<\/p>\n

\u201cTraders \u2026 maintain an almost childlike faith that Trump would end the war quickly, despite mounting evidence to the contrary,\u201d said Mann. \u201cOil futures have, to the point of parody, plummeted after every Trump Truth social post or Axios article hinting at an impending deal.\u201d<\/p>\n

With Trump snuggled in his impenetrable sphere of obliviousness, Mann said Trump apparently views today\u2019s \u201cpseudo-ceasefire double-blockade impasse as a satisfactory solution to a problem he\u2019d rather forget, instead of a ticking time bomb.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, it may take a new crisis within this crisis \u2013 an unmistakable recession or more U.S. troops killed in the Gulf \u2013 to change his mind,\u201d said Mann. <\/p>\n
