A few weeks ago, the MAGA world took one look at actor Lupita Nyong\u2019o playing the role of \u201cHelen\u201d in Christiopher Nolan\u2019s The Odyssey<\/em> and decided they hated it. But on Thursday, the Daily Beast reports movie audiences gave not a whit about MAGA preferences for white actresses.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe movie MAGA crusaded against last month for its latest anti-woke campaign is only drawing huge demand despite the whining,\u201d the Beast reports. \u201cVariety reported that IMAX tickets for Christopher Nolan\u2019s The Odyssey<\/em> were in such high demand Thursday morning that theater chain AMC\u2019s mobile application had to pause before it resumed operations. Moviegoers seeking Odyssey <\/em>tickets on Fandango had a similar experience, with lags and long wait times as fans waited an hour to buy tickets, the site reported.\u201d<\/p>\n

This news follows the fact that last year\u2019s IMAX pre-sale for the film sold out immediately, despite being a full year from release, said the Beast.<\/p>\n

MAGA is known for its racist bent. But the castings of Oscar winner Lupita Nyong\u2019o and Elliot Page drew scrutiny from conservative media personalities and Trump billionaire friend Elon Musk, who claimed Nolan was \u2018rewriting history\u2019 by selecting a Black actress for Helen of Troy and a trans actor as Achilles, said the Beast.<\/p>\n

Musk began knocking Nolan and his movie when rumors about N\u2019yong\u2019o\u2019s role started circulating in January. The billionaire X owner made sure to amplify his complaints with his own social media platform when Nolan confirmed Nyong\u2019o. Musk, according to the Beast, \u201cwent on a days-long posting and reposting spree denouncing the film and calling Nolan \u2018racist\u2019 for casting the her.<\/p>\n

But then came Musk\u2019s MAGA followers, heralded by Newsmax host Rob Finnerty, who dedicated a whole show\u2019s segment to whining that woman of Kenyan descent do not deserve to be playing the role of Helen and \u201crewriting\u201d history. <\/p>\n

\u201cA woman who was definitely white is going to be played by Lupita Nyong\u2019o,\u201d complained Finnerty. \u201cHelen of Troy was not Black. That\u2019s not me being mean. That\u2019s me telling the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Right-wing influencer Matt Walsh popped in and claimed to speak for everybody on the planet by posting \u201cnot one person on the planet actually thinks that Lupita Nyong\u2019o is \u2018the most beautiful woman in the world.\u2019\u201d He also called Nolan a \u201ccoward\u201d for casting Nyong\u2019o.<\/p>\n

For her part, Nyong\u2019o swatted the MAGA whining with barely a brush, reports the Beast.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not spending my time thinking of a defense. The criticism will exist whether I engage with it or not,\u201d she told Elle, adding, \u201cOur cast is representative of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Beast reports \u201cMAGA\u2019s efforts have done virtually nothing to incite outrage and lower demand for Nolan\u2019s adaptation, which remains as high as it was when tickets sold out last year.\u201d<\/p>\n
